Ladies, say goodbye to blister cream and ice packs. Swollen feet caused by prolonged wear of high heels will be a thing of the past now that a Canadian fashion designer has invented the world’s first interchangeable heel.

A year ago, there was no such thing as stylish pair of  high heels that transformed into comfortable flats at the push of a button. However, this brilliant shoe innovation by Tanya Heath allows women to convert their flats into heels (and vice versa) by pushing a button nestled in the middle of the shoe.

The Tanya Heath Paris line features dozens of different heel types, in varying heights and designs. Whether a thick heel or a skinny pump, pushing the button can detach the heel instantly, and turn the shoes into a stylish pair of flats!

The detachable heels come in an array of trendy colours and patterns, so you can constantly change up your look! The shoes themselves also come in a wide assortment of styles, from strappy sandals to knee-length boots.

It’s the solution to high heel discomfort we’ve all been waiting for, but never thought possible. Fold-up, carry-on flats have been on the market for years, but this innovative product takes the idea a step further. With the ability to change the heel height of a shoe, lugging around an extra pair of shoes in case of shoe discomfort will no longer be necessary. Additionally, think about the time and space you’ll save when packing for an extended holiday!

The inspiration stemmed from Heath’s own love/hate relationship with high heels.

“I wore high heels to work, to restaurants, to parties. I wore them everywhere but I could never manage the pain,” Heath revealed in a recent interview to the Huffington Post. “Once I nearly had a car accident when my heel locked under the break. I just fantasized non-stop about a shoe where you could just take the heels off, and that would go from a comfortable low-heel to a high-heel, and still make me look good!”

The idea has been three years in the making, with Heath enlisting the help of over 20 professional engineers and technicians to perfect the concept.

“Basically, if you take a normal pump, the measurements are quite detailed and the measurements are reasonably standardized. When you’ve got a shoe that is moving as much as ours does, it’s a challenge to not only make it stay on your foot but also to make it beautiful,” Heath reveals. “It actually took us three years before we got truly beautiful footwear on the multi-height platform.”

That attention to detail has finally paid off. Heath’s large fan base has led to flagship Tanya Heath Paris stores opening throughout the world, including one in Toronto (you can also check out her site here).

The shoes are handcrafted in France using premium Italian and French leather and cost between $500-$1000. The heels range between $35-$100.

It definitely falls into the luxury end of the shoe spectrum, but when you take into account that you can have an entire new look for only $35 (after buying your initial pair of shoes) the price becomes half as difficult to swallow.

Heath has hinted at plans to expand her line to include handbags, using similar technology used in the shoes.

“As the brand evolves, we will continually ask ourselves, ‘Is it possible to make a fashionable product that makes women look good but also allows them to live their busy days?’ And if the answer is yes, we will try to do it.”

Hhmm, interchangeable bag designs anyone?

The very heart of your writing whilst sounding agreeable initially, did not sit well with me personally after some time. Somewhere throughout the sentences you were able to make me a believer unfortunately only for a while. I however have got a problem with your leaps in assumptions and you would do well to help fill in those breaks. If you actually can accomplish that, I could surely end up being amazed.
